In honor of the Centennial of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, the Observatories will host an international conference on the topic of the origin and evolution of the elements. Although the study of chemical composition and chemical evolution is not a recent area of astronomical research, new observational and theoretical advances, together with the advent of several new large telescopes, make the present a particularly exciting time for the field. The purpose of this conference is to explore this theme by assembling a group of researchers with unusually diverse, but interrelated, observational and theoretical expertise. It is hoped that much can be learned from the interconnection between the various sub-disciplines of chemical evolution covered in the conference. The scientific program will be framed by a series of in-depth invited reviews, to be supplemented by contributed talks, posters, and discussion sessions. |
